Leather Jacket Lovelies

Finally an alternative to the peacoat jacket! While I have enjoyed my coat with the faux fur trip for many seasons, I am glad to have a reason to go out and get a new jacket! I love to pair it with a dress + scarf or jeans + flat knee high boots. It adds some edge while still maintaining the classy look. Personally my bank account couldn't afford a real-deal leather jacket so I found a great faux leather alternative at Loehmann's. I am so glad the leather jacket has come back around!

Sequin Plenty

Dear Fashion Designers,

Thank you for bringing back sequins! I will forgive your transgressions in re-introducing a) parachute pants b) acid-washed jeans c) jumpsuits d) ankle-breaking heels... but thank you for the seqins! There are just so many great dresses that incorporate sequins, it is hard to pick a favorite, but for the brave, a gold number will certainly do justice at a new year's eve party. For those not looking to be the center of attention, there are several black-sequined options which show a little razzle-dazzle or you could incorporate them into your shoe collection. All in all, sequins make me excited for holiday dresses and new years eve soirees!

Farmer in the Dell

Plaid shirts are popping up all over town, and I have to say I am really enjoying them. Let's be clear, I do not approve of nor support plaid skirts, headbands, dresses, shorts or pants as they are very close cousins to my school uniform days; however, I actually like the relaxed look of the plaid shirt especially with those pearl snaps. You could find one for $14, $40 or $400 so you have your pick, but really all you have to do is pick one up.

Fall Must Have

Everyone has their soft spots: mine happens to be dresses but others range from shoes to headbands to undergarments. I decidedly have a new-found soft spot for seemingly all of Henri Bendel's accessories. (Thank goodness they don't have a store in SF!). I love their handbags, their scarves and their fun bangles which are a steal in comparison to the friends at Hermes. I haven't taken the leap yet to purchase something... largely because I live 500 miles from the closest store, but bank account beware I am on the prowl.

Flat Attack

Coming up on 5 months in SF, I have learned my lesson; if you want to wear heels, stash some back-up flats in your purse because those hills are DANGEROUS. You will break you ankle; it is just a matter of when. Now in order to pack this back-up shoe collection, I have to carry a bigger bag than I would like. No super small clutches when you have to carry around some flip-flops. Luckily, SF is not the only place where ladies run into this problem, and Katie Shea (left) and Susie Levitt at CitiSoles have developed a folding shoe that you can quickly stash in your purse. The upside: you can finally sport those envelope clutches with ease. The downside: what to do with the heels...

The 80s Are Back

So the 80s are back with a vengeance from neon t-shirts to leggings to flower power dresses to mini denim skirts. One trend I just cannot stand is the jumpsuit. I am sorry but who looks good in this trend aside from a 5'10" 120 pound super model. And really I could argue that even they do not look good in this look. We just finished squeezing ourselves into skinny jeans; now we have to rearrange our look to encompass the jumpsuit? Dear designers -- While I don't wish you demise, please make clothes that can make ladies with non-model bodies look great. The jumpsuit is a confidence killer not an ego booster.

ShoeDazzle or ShoeRip-Off?

Kim Kardashian recently started a company called ShoeDazzle. Essentially you answer a couple questions so the website will have an idea of the type of shoes you like; you pay $49.99 a month to receive a pair of shoes (I guess you can opt out if there is nothing you like); you are mailed a pair of shoes and either you can keep or return them. It is awefully hard to judge the merit of the company on the surface. Personally I didn't care for any of the styles shown on the site. One piece of the puzzle I didn't understand was if these shoes are designed by Kim & Company if they just send you shoes from another designer. I have always wanted a personal shopper to be fair, but somehow I don't think Kim and I have similar tastes... at all. An interesting idea to be sure, but I am sensing a crash and burn kind of like her reality tv career, but at least she has Reggie.

Boyfriend Blazer... Leave It Home w/ the BF

I try to avoid being a victim of fashion. VIFs are those who fall prey to buying whatever the latest featured items were in Vogue or InStyle. It is easy to let happen. You see either people around wearing said item; the salesperson is really pushing for a purchase; and you don't want to dress like your mom. I place the Boyfriend Blazer into the VIF category whenever I see a normal person wearing one. I am sure if I was a triple zero like Kate Bosworth; I could probably make the boyfriend blazer look ok at best. For any normal human with normal proportions, the boyfriend blazer just leaves you look homeless or like a bad 80s sitcom without the shoulder pads. So for all of you who have been eyeing that blazer... leave that boyfriend blazer purchase at the store because instead you could get this fun tennis inspired dress.

Another Hit from Tarjay

Tarjay aka Target scores another hit with bags from Felix Ray. In my book, they are now two for two for Spring 2009 between their sandal line from Miss Tricia of Capri and now Felix Ray. My personal favorite was the Gold Envelope Clutch, but they also offered some great tote bag options as well such as the Navy Canvas Tote. Sometimes it is refreshing to be able to pull out a new friend to pair with white jeans or a sun dress. Fun + Affordable = 5 gold stars for Tarjay. Keep them coming!

I-Like-the-Emergency-Room Shoes

I don't get this hooker heel trend at all. Maybe because my mode of transportation is my two feet and not a car, I will naturally view these shoes as absurdities. I am truly mystified by these sky high platform shoes that put all women over 6 feet tall. Secretly I feel bad for all the short guys out there because now women will truly tower over them by a good foot. I just feel like I would be putting my life on the line any time I strapped those weapons on my feet. Between breaking my ankle, tripping and splitting my face apart or catching the super spiky heel on anything, I would just be destined for failure. I am all for heels as I think they can make women feel more confident and attractive, but leave the hooker heels to the pole dancers as they need the extra cash in these tough times.

Summer - Yes Please!

With summer fast approaching, it is time to kick the workout routine in high gear (i.e. actually go to the gym) and cut back a bit on those delicious milk chocolate cookie sandwiches (Bye Keebler friends!). It is also time to scour stores for the latest bathing suit deals. It is impressive how much brands can charge for such small pieces of fabric. However, this summer is special in that we have a new entrant to the bathing suit market which actually recognizes that little fabric = low prices.... drum roll please: Forever 21 has launched a bathing suit line. Hurrah! The crowd goes wild. They actually have a number of fun bright colored suits complete with ruffles or studs as suits your needs for the day. So if you are in need for some gym motivation, order your self a new fresh suit because you can always stay in your backyard.

Break the Bank

Thank goodness my credit card has a daily limit on it and sends off all sorts of alarms should I spend too much in one day. If I ever happened to loop one of these bags over my arm from the Valentino spring collection, I am uncertain I would ever let it go . How could you not have a good day if one of these friends were hanging off your arm? These bags are the ultimate jaw dropper and worthy of fame andfortune... unfortunately I do not have the fortune that these bags would cost. Tear.
